This clinic is run by Dr Irayna Lovedale who has developed a special interest in diabetes.
Where possible routine blood tests are taken in the preceding week so that the results are available in the clinic and treatment can be changed if necessary. There is close contact with this clinic and the hospital Diabetes Resource Centre on the Newcastle General site. All diabetics are encouraged to either attend this clinic or the hospital on a regular basis. Even if a patient is not seen at the hospital, there is an arrangement for the back of the eyes (retina) to be photographed on an annual basis at the General Hospital.

If you think that you may have, or may be at risk of having diabetes, please make an appointment with Sister Soulsby and bring a urine sample with you. She might also check you blood sugar. For the past year we have been checking bloods routinely when taking blood for other reasons and have found a number of patients who have diabetes but were not aware of this.
