Elderly needs clinic
Responsibility of the Practice Nurse and District Nurse
As part of our continuing commitment to the care of the elderly, the practice offers those patients over the age of 75 an annual appointment with one of our attached nurses to talk about needs and perform some routine tests to exclude diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. If you would like to avail yourself of this service please make an appointment to see the practice nurse or alternatively discuss it with one of the receptionists who will arrange for the district nurse to contact you.
Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease is the major neuropsychiatric disorder of our times, dominating not just psychogeriatric wards, but the lives of many thousand sons, daughters and spouses who have given up work, friends, and all their accustomed ways of life to support these patients through their last long years at home. The struggle of caring for someone we love through a terminal illness always puts us on our mettle: never more so than when that loved one's personality disintegrates, and the person who is loved is gone long before their eventual death.
An excellent local resource can be found at The Newcastle Branch of the Alzheimer's Society There are also links to the National Society with numerous helpful leaflets.
