Patient Participation Groups (PPG’s) are generally made up from a group of volunteer patients, Practice Manager and members of staff, together with a GP and our group follows this format.

We meet on a quarterly basis to represent patient interests and to act as a sounding board for ideas suggested by the Practice.  By working closely together we strive to improve services, promote healthcare awareness and provide improved communication between patients and the Practice.

Our PPG was formed in 2006, and as its title suggests, represents the interests of approximately 10,300 patients at both Newbold Verdon and Market Bosworth Surgeries.

Over the past 4 years we have engaged in a variety of fund-raising activities, including book sales, Christmas and Easter raffles, and have been fortunate enough to receive donations from various local sources, including £300.00 from the Lions Club.

To date we have used these funds to purchase wheelchairs, which are available for loan, an automatic blood pressure machine, a digital camera to measure the improvement of wounds, baby-changing facilities and children’s play tables.

We also support the ‘Flu Vaccination Days’, providing transport to and from the surgery, for the less mobile. In recent months we have extended our contact with some of the more lonely members of our community by introducing our ‘Tea and Cake’ afternoons.

If you have any constructive ideas relating to the Practice, which we may be able to help you with please write to the PPG, hand your letter to a receptionist at either surgery who will ensure your letter is passed on to a member of the group.  We will then do our best to address your suggestion and provide you with a prompt response.

Many patients are interested to hear what is going on and are happy to give their opinion but they do not wish to attend meetings.  You can now be part of the discussion by signing up to the Patient Reference Group (PRG) where your views can be expressed by email only.  From April 2012 you can join the PRG as an email member.
