About Us

THE UPPINGHAM SURGERY PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP (PPG)

  • Uppingham Surgery is eager to ensure that local people are actively involved in deciding how the health services they use should develop. In order to provide patients with the opportunity to express their views the Uppingham PPG was set up

AIM AND ROLE OF THE PPG

  • The Aim of the PPG is to give patients, GPs and Practice Staff an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and information and then to help with action to make improvements. A major emphasis is to assist communication, both to and from patients.
  • For example, the PPG has been able to help carry out and report two surveys, on patient participation and the proposed relocation; it has been an important forum for discussion of the move, the new appointments system and the future, now happily resolved, of the Gretton and Ketton surgeries. The role of the group is particularly important at this time of significant local changes in the practice and of fundamental changes in the National Health Service.

BENEFITS OF THE PPG

  • There are many benefits in having a PPG. Patients can gain a better understanding and knowledge of the Practice and the Staff; they will be consulted about their primary healthcare before decisions are made; there will be better communication between patients and staff and there will be a forum for patients to suggest positive ideas and voice concerns.
  • Patients now have an organisation through which their views can be represented in local healthcare and also an opportunity to make links with other community initiatives.

WIDER REPRESENTATION

  • At present the PPG has 12 patient members who  cover a diversity of tasks and areas. We would welcome new members who have the time, skills and commitment to make things happen. If you are interested in becoming an active member of the Group, please contact one of the members by following this link PPG Members.
  • We recognise that there are many people who might like to help inform issues relating to the delivery of services by the Surgery but who do not have the time, or do not wish, to be full members of the PPG. We have therefore  established a wider group (known as the Patient Representation Group or PRG) which will operate by email.
  • If you sign up to join this you will receive, by email, regular summaries of the PPG meetings as well as information about developments and proposals relevant to the Surgery and its patients. In return you will be able to respond and contribute your own views and experiences or to initiate discussion. If you would like to be a part of the  Patient Representation Group please follow the link below:

CONTACT US

  • Of course, neither the PPG or PRG can be the appropriate  forum for individual complaints or single issue campaigns. The objective of the groups is  to try to  represent the whole Practice population, working in close harmony with Practice Staff to improve healthcare in the community.
